Gennifer Moss, aka Earth Friend Gen, was not arrested, according to nwcn.com, this past weekend for riding her bike in the nude, although reports of her supposed arrest made the news. Gennifer Moss rides her bicycle through the town of Portland, Oregon, in the nude, in order to promote peace and to promote Mother Earth. For Gennifer Moss aka Earth Friend Gen Portland, riding a bike or rollerskating nude is also part of her lifestyle.

Gennifer Moss aka Earth Friend Gen

While Gennifer Moss is not breaking the law, her nude presence does create issues for the town and the police department. The 911 dispatcher receives calls from drivers complaining about her nude bicycling. These callers, who apparently do not know their own town's laws are taking up valuable time and resources of the 911 line.

Gennifer Moss is a fit, brown-haired beauty whose in-shape body should convince others to give up their cars for bikes.

Earlier this year, Gennifer Moss was told she could not ride nude in the Ashland, Oregon 4th of July parade.

Public Nudity in Portland, Oregon

Gennifer Moss aka Earth Friend Gen is not breaking any laws, despite the attention she garners.

Her public nudity is acceptable and legal according to the local police. "The exposure of genitalia, and their intent has to be to arouse another person and I clearly think in this instance, that is not being met," said Cathe Kent with the Portland Police Bureau, according to KGW.

Gennifer Moss Aka Earth Friend Gen and Nude Protesters

Nude protesting, or using nudity as a way to draw attention to a cause, is not new. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the animal rights group is know for its TV and print advertisements featuring nude celebrities, who won't wear fur.

Baring Witness

Baring Witness is a group of people that uses the nude human body to spell out words on a field of grass on the beach. Commonly the words are peace, paix (peace in French), or the peace sign. Not all of their public art demonstrations involve public nudity.

Breasts Not Bombs

One organization which uses public nudity to draw attention to the peace movement is Breasts Not Bombs.

Also wanted to note that the place and context may matter. When I was in college, streaking was a fad. At least 4 or 5 times a year, people would streak through the dining hall, helping sleep-deprived students stay awake (not the streakers' intent, I'm sure). No one was arrested, reprimanded or anything else. It was just assumed to be a way the students let off steam and acted silly, had fun, whatever.

Pam - I find this a bit ironic (yes, had to come back, couldn't resist): just the other day there was a magazine of nude models covered in body paint. This was being sold, in open view, in the checkout lanes of our grocery store. No one complained, possibly because the paint made the models look clothed but I doubt they'd look quite as covered up in real life, without benefit of special effects and some skillful airbrushing. I could only conclude that nudity was fine as long as it wasn't obvious (although savvy kids were grabbing those magazines and looking at them VERY closely, not fooled a minute by the paint). Adults weren't quite so observant, that day.

Public nudity for a cause...'cause it's cheaper than clothes. But yeah, try that near lake areas and mosquito larvae finally found a new home, anything to save animals. PETA, the new Promotional Elements, T and A.

This isn't something I'd care to see. What next? Maybe I shouldn't ask.

Jim, you make some good and humorous points. But, I don't think they would allow her to fly nude.

Robert, you're right about the bottoms, and she was asked to put on bottoms to comply with the law and she did (but was not arrested). The sign is a good idea, or body paint would work.

In addition 'Earth Friend' has in the course of her life taken advantage of jet travel, with its copious levels of fuel consumption (if you think it is more efficient to lift your specific mass to a 20,000 foot attitude and propel it at speeds in excess of 400 mph than it is to move that same mass at sea level at 60 mph, you don't know squat about physics or your just another dupe of the airline industry) I guess she thinks drinking a green shake and wearing green clothing is compensation enough for her fossil fuel use. Maybe she should fly naked to reduce her impact on the environment.

Riding around naked satisfies something she may personally need but it does nothing for peace. War at its most basic level is because your adversary wants what you have and is willing to go to any length to acquire it. If she wants to promote peace she should give up all but her essential possessions and work at a shelter for abused women or perhaps volunteer at an agency that promotes understanding between eternal combatants such Israel and Palestine. Riding around bare arse and pretending its about peace is at the very least, lazy and insincere, unless she is not all that bright, and that is what I suspect, and then I suppose that just makes her another in a long line of ineffectual and misguided moonbats.

I think more people would pay attention to PETA if their models weren't nude. I support PETA, but I mean who can take their "shock" tactics seriously? Maybe they think they have to use nudity to lure in people who aren't like-minded as far as their cause goes - same with that naked cycling chick. Ouch, by the way. :|

I find it kind of funny; would anyone pay attention to PETA if their models were not nude? Would anyone pay attention to these people if they weren't nude? When I go streaking, I usually end up arrested and end up pay for allot of people's psychiatric therapy! HA!

Great story...but I think carrying or wearing a sign...maybe on the bike...that explained her quest..goals...point of view, would make it all more effective. Regarding the construction workers complaining....another version of this report makes it clear they were complaining about the police telling her to put her bottoms on to cover those "offensive" genitals. Would be nice if the world, including the Portland cops could get over the body exposure problem, and just make sure she's wearing her helmet. Ride on!

Maybe she will help end the dependence on foreign oil, lol. Cute article.

Burn OR, that was pretty funny, considering she is such an attractive woman.

This would not work if it was a guy, both for aesthetic and, um, logistical reasons... Good article!
