Could a Woman Prime Minister in Israel Prevent War with Iran?

We're definitely moving into a new era of women leaders taking top leadership roles around the world and exhibiting no-nonsense attitudes toward getting things done. Well, even though I'm a man, I'm not afraid to admit that women always make better practical decisions in getting things done. When it comes to dealing with dangerous war situations, though, we only have one to learn from--at least in the Middle East: Golda Meir during her years as Prime Minister of Israel. It was during the Yom Kippur War when things became so dicey, that Meir almost resorted to using one thing that any male leader still quivers over: The use of nuclear weapons.

Of course, Golda Meir was a completely different personality from the incoming acting Prime Minister (and likely winner of the official election), Tzipi Livni, who may become the first PM in Israel since Meir. It's ironic that both America and Israel may have leaders (or co-leaders) who'll have to make major decisions on almost inevitable war with Iran down the road. So for all you male chauvinists out there who think only males have to make decisions on war and other complex situations, you're going to see the female mind end up making some of the most important decisions we've seen in generations.

Having Livni in power certainly makes for a better scenario than having the current Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz in power. In an article I wrote here this last summer, I considered the possibility that Mofaz would attempt to run for Prime Minister once the news got out that Ehud Olmert was likely going to resign. At the time, I didn't think Livni would be in a position to take over for Olmert based on the adamancy of Mofaz and his strong support from the people. The only thing I lamented in my article was that Mofaz was seemingly an Israeli version of George S. Patton hellbent on war and rattling his sabers at Iran by giving a spirited quote to the press earlier this year that war with the country was inevitable.
