According to the family doctor editorial staff-which is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians:

"Normal behavior depends on the child's age, personality, and physical and emotional development." "A child's behavior may be a problem if it does not match the expectations of the family or if it is disruptive." "Normal or good behavior is usually determined by whether it's socially, culturally and
developmentally appropriate."

Indeed these three key observations point out important and vital reasons why many PG rated video games should be avoided when a child is in their early developmental stages.

I have personally known parents who let their children play violent video games as early as five years old. This may sound absurd, but it is becoming more and more a part of many families daily unfortunate routine.

There are many reasons why children between the ages of five and twelve should be forbidden to play these games. A young child does not form great or average cognitive learning skills until his pre-adolescent years. Many clinical psychologists have observed an increase in violent and deviant behavior in young children whom parents expose their children to these violent and malicious video games. It is the responsibility of each parent to teach their child the difference between fun and dangerous fantasy.

The most important years of a child learning curve are between the ages of five and ten. This is the beginning indoctrination where many of their personality traits begin to form and take shape. Children are easily influenced by what they may be exposed to-for better or for worse. The shaping of a young child mind will have a profound outcome in the maturity process in their pre-teen and young adult life.

The damaging affects of these PG rated video games have become a staple diet of young children and young adults, taking too much of their free time and leisure activity. This has become such a disturbing trend, there are even parents who let their children play these games while traveling in their car or mini-van.

Excellent article Al and sooo very true. Games like Grand Theft Auto San Andreas etc. are disgusting and teach our children all the wrong morals and values. However, I will add that it all starts at hoe with the parents.
