un truly begins. Most people want to think of anything but shopping as wrapping paper lay in a big heap on the floor but there are great sales to be had after Christmas if you know where to look and when to shop.
December 26th is the big after-Christmas shopping day and most retail stores offer big sales to lure people in as they attempt to return the unwanted gifts they received the day before. New York is a great location for such an event. Much of the City clears out for Christmas. Thousands upon thousands of New Yorkers head to families in other areas for the holiday and they certainly are not shuttling home for the 6am sale at Macy's. If you plan on doing after-Christmas shopping in New York head out super early, as in, when the stores open on December 26th and grab up what you want and get out. Around 9 or 10am most stores begin to get packed so don't hit the snooze button.
Getting up early for sales also has an additional bonus. Many stores offer and "Early-bird" special. Early-bird sales are offered between certain hours, usually opening until about 10 or 11am. Kohl's located in Yonkers, NY is notorious for such sales and getting in early can pretty much guarantee you some great deals.
Macy's and the Manhattan Mall are two great locals for after-Christmas shopping but there are deals to be found if you are willing to travel. The Tanger Outlet mall located in Riverhead on Long Island offers up some great buys. Because it is an outlet center most merchandise is already reduced. With an added sale on top of it bargains are everywhere. If you plan to hit the outlets the best thing you can do is get there super early because the place packs quickly on a regular day, add in a sale and it's all-out mayhem.
