The Comfort in Comfort Food

The third bite of macaroni and cheese at Zaftig's delicatessen reminded me that the Law of Diminishing Returns only applies to eating when NOT under stress. It was my second week of stuffing myself full of comfort food, and Zaftig's was a welcome respite in my day.

The name "zaftig" is rather ironic for this delicatessen, and fits me just nicely.

The first bite of any chewy, cheesy, or otherwise sloth-inducing meal is always a moment of silent amazement. From there, it's a fairly individual experience. For some, like me, the euphoria of yummy comfort food gives way to self-loathing and guilt. Not this time, though; I'd been smacked around again by the universe, and dammit, I was out for copious amounts of melted cheese, come hell or high cholesterol.

Nhan ordered brisket and potato pancakes. Thankfully, I'm not a big fan of brisket; otherwise, I would have inhaled even more rich food. Walking out of the restaurant, I felt uncomfortable, but not quite stuffed enough to pass by the pastry case (excellent product placement, bravo) without picking up a gooey Congo Bar.

I guess I'm back to the drawing board with handling stress. There's only so much mac and cheese a body can handle, and I had already downed three casseroles of macaroni and cheese in the past week. I could be completely wacked and say that I'm not eating red meat, but that's going to be a moot point as soon as I hunt down the Beef Rib to end all Beef Ribs in the Boston area.
