Children with birthdays near the end of the year and the holidays of Christmas, New Years and others have a bad break. As insignificant as those of use without late December birthdates may feel that this is, we are incorrect. There are things that can be done to correct the situation, some better th
an others. My grand father, who was a wonderful, quiet yet strong, and much beloved individual had his birthday on the 26th of December. I believe that as a person who put up with this birthday for 104 years he had a unique outlook on the situation. He told me quite clearly and repeatedly only two things that he considered serious enough to pass on to anyone.

Grandpa's first gen of serious advice was this. "Never conceive a child at a time that will even possibly end up with them having a birth day after December 10th through the 4th of January. They always get a raw deal and it has upset me my entire life, although I never said much about it."

Now in our family we have a young lady who has her birthday on the 31st of December. We remember the warnings that grandpa gave to us and have developed the following things in an attempt to make sure that our five year old princess does not get nor does she feel that she has received the short end of the stick.

We make sure that her birthday party is held on the 10th of January every year. For accepting the delay she still gets, on her birthday, one gift for each day of delay till her party.

We inform everyone that her birthday is on New Years Eve but for our own benefit we put off the party as no one can have a child's birthday party successfully on New Years Eve.

We ensure that at Christmas time this young lady at minimum gets the same number and quality of gifts as any other child present at the family gathering.

We also do our best to ensure that she gets no more at Christmas than other children.

We have a special toast every year to our New Years Eve child. We allow her special late night privileges on her birthday.
