A young man waits
watching with a giant smile
day after day he longs
for his parcel to arrive

In his mind he sees it
all wrapped up in a bow
shiny blue paper with spots
tied in ribbons of gold

The big day finally comes
his heart is filled with glee
until he sees the wrapping
isn't at all what he thought it would be

The paper is red with stripes
the ribbons of silvery light
his lovely imagination
just didn't match this sight.

Completely disappointed
he curses and tosses it down
he doesn't want this package
he deeply furrows his brow

He feels he is being punished
that The Maker is laughing on high
he feels he didn't get what he wanted
but he never stopped to look inside

The packaging wasn't what he sought
but the gift was all he dreamed and more
had he looked inside he would have seen
how very much he is loved and adored

He would have seen the blessing
being bestowed upon his tender heart
to have his deepest dreams come true
such great wisdom to impart

The outer wrappings cannot tell
just what treasure lies beneath
the paper may not match our dreams
that the gift inside may exceed.

Thank you so much Dani. Life is good. Life is what we make it. We must cherish every moment. It is over too soon, in many cases. Thank you for your Christmas wish. Keep on writing your poetry, Dear. It is very good. ~Nikki (Wilma)

Dear Nikke: I am so sorry for your loss. I am glad you have friends to share the holidays with. My son will be with his dad, but I have plenty to keep me busy with packing and working! *SMILE* My Christmas wish for you: May your future reality far exceed your current dreams. ~Dani

Thank you so much. Since my husband died, I am quite lonely during the holidays. I will have friends here this year, however. It just isn't the same as it used to be. ~Nikke
