Four Simple, Effective Solutions to Save Money on Gas, Right Now!
When was the last time you filled up your gas tank without balking at the prices? I once had a friend from Saudi Arabia who told me that where he came from, oil was cheaper than water. Sadly, I don't live in Saudi Arabia and chances are you don't either. So what, besides moving to Saudi Arabia, can you do to reduce gas costs?
Here are four simple, easy things you can do right now to save money on gas.
1. Get Cheaper Gas
This is one of those things that you may find incredibly obvious, but I'm sure at least some of you aren't doing this. If you want to save money on gas, find a gas station nearby (no need to drive to Saudi Arabia) that offers lower gas prices. An easy way to do this is to go to Google and enter your town or city name, followed by 'gas prices'. You'll find lists of gas stations, along with their prices and addresses.
Check the fuel requirements of your car. Higher octane gas costs more, so if your car does not need it, then don't get it!
Also, do your research on credit cards and try to find one that offers 1%-5% discount on gas. They'll most likely limit you to a certain brand of gas though, so do some calculations and compare the discounted prices to the cheapest gas prices in your area to see if it's worth the effort.
2. Drive Less
Another ridiculously obvious solution, but are you doing it?
Driving less does not mean throwing away your car keys, it just means that you need to drive smart. This may take a little more work on your part, but it's well worth the effort if you seriously want to save money on gas.
Plan your route, especially for daily commutes or long distances. If more than one person needs to travel, try to schedule your trips so that everybody can go out together.
3. Take the Pedal Off The Metal
Slowing down on highways will also save you much more gas. Now I don't mean ridiculously slow here. Trying to pull a stunt like driving at 10 mph just to save money on gas probably isn't worth the loss of time. Stick to a nice comfortable speed of about 55 mph.
4. Switch It Off and Roll Them Down
