Once Again YouTube Plays Role; Reflecting U.S.?

It is easy to become focused on your own country. This may relate to good or bad issues. Then, an incident occurs in another country that reminds you that the best and the worst can happen anywhere.
Finnish Shooter Kills Nine in Second Finnish School Incident in a Year
Date: September 23, 2008

The Independent World is carrying an article by Reuters, "Nine killed in Finnish school shooting," that reports a student went wild at an adult training college killing nine people before shooting himself.

The shooter is still alive. In addition to the nine killed others have been wounded. The severity of their injuries is unknown so there is certainly the possibility of other deaths.

Jukka Forsberg, a maintenance man at the school was quoted in the article as saying "A cold-blooded shooter entered the building with an automatic pistol and started cutting down students."

The school, located in western Finland, is called the "Kauhajoki School of Hospitality" and has 150 students and 40 teachers as of 2005. It teaches catering tourism and home economics in its programs.

This shooting was the country's second within a year and parodied the earlier one.

The earlier shooting was at Jokala High School, carried out by an 18-year-old man with a 22 caliber handgun. It ended in the deaths of nine people the shooter inclusive. That the attack was going to occur was posted by the shooter an hour prior the incident on YouTube.

The current shooting is similar to the Jakola School shooting in that four YouTube postings apparently created by the shooter were found.

School shootings are of interest in the United States. They can occur for multiple reasons. A person may have a mental disorder; they may be angry with an administrator; it is possible that they are angry with other students or were denied admittance to the school. These are a few examples.

The YouTube issue puts one in mind of the recent Virginia Tech killing spree where 32 students were murdered. The killer, a person with a known mental disorder, sent photos to NBC News to present the reason for his actions.

As with many stories, there is an important side issue.
