Over the years, Google has been an innovative company, always adding new features and products for consumers. Much of Google's business has been centered around online products and services - until now. According to Wired, together with T-Mobile, Google has come up with the new T-Mobile G1, or Googlephone. But, can it compete with the popular Apple iPhone?

Google and T-Mobile have not yet revealed the features of the T-Mobile G1, but the new Googlephone is expected to be a huge competitor for Apple iPhone, with some saying that it could slow down, or even completely stop, the progress of the Apple iPhone.

The full features of the T-Mobile G1 are expected to be released in a New York press conference featuring T-Mobile and Google. Once the press conference has taken place, consumers can find out more information about the new T-Mobile G1 on an interactive website launched by Google and T-Mobile. Browsers can simply log on to announcement.t-mobileg1.com to access information on the revolutionary new cell phone and web browser.

According to a Reuters blog report, Amazon has already leaked some of the details on the T-Mobile G1. It is purported that the one-of-a-kind phone will use touchscreen technology and easily link to several of Google's popular online venues. This is said to include Google Search, YouTube, Gmail, GoogleMaps with StreetView, and several others. It is also stated that the T-Mobile G1 will easily access "Android Market," where Googlephone owners can access this feature unique to the new smartphone. This will allow the consumers to customize their phones with content and features for their personal lifestyle and preferences.

The Apple iPhone also includes an application store and several different custom features, but since details are still forthcoming, it is not yet known if Google's Android Market and other phone features will be more revolutionary than those offered by Apple iPhone.

I'm interested to see how this comes out. I'm considering a G1 as a Christmas gift. Thanks for the comparison.

Wow. And I mean.. wow. I can barely get a regular cellphone to work, definitely don't want to mess too much with texting. And really, I have no clue what SMS or Blackberries or any of the other newfangled things are. This would definitely blow me out of the water. Great info, Thanks!

Data plan is $25 and includes 400 sms, Google Maps, and more. Good deal. Open platform. Qwerty, slideout, touchscreen and trackball. Price is lower than almost every PDA available.

Now if the data rate for the phones would be more competitive...I have to admit though these phones are increasingly appealing.

There will be good competition. iphone has to fix up its glitches or else they may come under pressure. Great article!
