Let's face it, kids love movies, but it's been proven that they should watch no more than 2 hours of TV a day. So why not combine their love of a movie and activities that will help them learn and grow? Following are suggestions for the movie The Rescuers Down Under released in 1990. These activitie
s would also work well for preschool classes and party games for this age group.

Watch the movie

Let your kids watch the show while you prepare the activities for the rest of the day or attend to other responsibilities.

Crocodile Fun

Make a crocodile. Cut out a crocodile shape from green construction paper. Let your child fold the middle part of the crocodile like a fan and add a face to the crocodile with markers. Attach a wooden stick to the tail end, and one just under the mouth. Show your child how to make the crocodile look like it is moving by wiggling the sticks back and forth.

Boomerang Craft

Cut out a boomerang from thick cardstock or a piece of chipboard. Let your child decorate it with bright paints, markers and paper.

Learn Australian Slang (an activity for older children)

Four to five year olds will love learning some Australian slang. Here are a few you can teach them;
  • Aussie=a person from Australia
  • Barbie=a barbeque
  • G'day=hi
  • Mate=friend
  • Tucker=food
  • Togs=swimsuit
Make up sentences and use the Australian lingo.

Let's Pretend

Talk to your child about animals that are found in Australia, such as kangaroos, echidna, emu, platypus, crocodile and Tasmanian devil. Show them pictures then pretend to be those animals.
