Having a new house is exciting and an excellent opportunity to both keep favorite old holiday traditions while starting new ones at the same time. Here are a few ideas about how to do just that.
The "Green" Christmas Wreath Tradition
One important part of Christmas at every home is the way it is decorated. My first suggestion to new home owners concerns the wreath for the front door. On the occasion of your first Christmas in the new home make a beautiful wreath that is "green". Have made a wreath that can be used the next, and many more "next" Christmas'. Each year a new wreath is made and the old one moves to a place inside the home to help decorate for next Christmas. Over the years you will have Christmas wreath from many years brightening the doors and halls of your home.
One Mother-in-Law Tradition - Maternal
Make sure you keep one tradition that the female part of your marriage enjoyed at her home while she was growing up. Keep "Mom" involved in this tradition as much as possible, and for as long as possible. This is an investment in time and caring that pays big dividends in memories for the future.
One Mother-in-Law Tradition - Paternal
Make sure you keep one tradition that the male side of your marriage enjoyed at her home while she was growing up. Keep "Mom" involved in this tradition as much as possible, and for as long as possible. This is an investment in time and caring that pays big dividends in memories for the future.
Live Christmas Tree
Plant a live Christmas Tree in your front yard. Each year this will be your live tree and it will be decorated as much as the tree you have inside. This will be your only live Christmas tree as any inside the home will be "green." A back up live Christmas tree will be planted every three years in different parts of the property if at all possible.
