I am forty four years old and I weigh 210 pounds. Am I proud of this fact? Of course not. Am I content to be here? Of course not. Do I do everything in my power to lose the weight? Once again, of course not.
Obesity is rampant in America. According to an Anne Collins article that I came across at website: www.annecollins.com, 58 million Americans are overweight. Also according to this article, the following health problems have been related to obesity: 80%- type II diabetes, 70%- cardiovascular diseases, 42%- breast and colon cancers, 30%- gall bladder surgeries, and 26%- high blood pressure. Notice how it is stated that these health problems have been related to obesity. I am obese, and I believe that my health problems have been caused by my love to indulge into food. I also believe that we need to see our problems for what they are. I am in no way discrediting this article, I am using it as an example to say this, we are too often quick to walk around our issues. We blame our weight on our health, our genes, and anything else that will point the finger away from the real problem.
If you suffer from obesity, how many times have you tried to make excuses for your problems by saying that you can't diet or exercise because of physical illnesses? I understand. I am in the same boat most of the time. However, I do realize that I would not have these illnesses if I would lose the weight. Too often when we feel as if we can't help ourselves, we will indulge in more food as a comfort. Food is truly an addiction. We are no different than someone addicted to drugs. They have to have their fix, and so do we. Yet both are just as quick to kill us. We must come to realize that we are not overweight because of a physical reason, we are overweight because we love food. I have found that when I was carrying weight from a health issue, it was generally fluid. Fluid is easy to remove from the body. Once gone, how do explain away the rest of the weight?
