Did you know that the average woman in the U.S wears a size 14? According to recent statistics, 40 percent of women in this country wear a size 14 or larger. Yet every time I go out to buy clothes, I
am reminded of how seemingly fat I am compared to all those other clothing stores that only sell sizes 12 and under (or even smaller, like Abercrombie and Fitch). Why are we women made to starve ourselves in order to fit the image of these models on TV or in the magazines? It's like they make these women's clothing stores to fit the models, and not the models to fit the clothing.

Anyway, I am depressed now because, as happens to most women in America, after having my beautiful baby girl in April, I am branded as a mom with extra baby weight. I used to fit into my size 14 jeans, and now, I can't even fit my whole leg into them!

Not that I have gotten THAT large. It turns out that I now wear a few sizes larger, but big enough that the regular department stores (or I should say, the special ones like Gap and The Limited) no longer fit my needs. I now have to shop at (gasp!) Lane Bryant to get the style I want. Now to me this is a major downfall. I always pooh-pooh'd the women who had to go to that store. I used to say to myself, "At least I don't have to shop there" even when I knew my waist was expanding.
So I now I face the inevitable. I am working on losing this extra baby fat, but in the mean time, I will try to remain positive with this new fact. At least I am not alone in this country. Like I stated earlier, apparently 40% of women wear a size 14 or larger, and most of them are under 5'4"! I can say that, being much taller, maybe I am really doing quite well in the body image department.
