You don't have to live in Hawaii to have a Christmas Luau. You can have one, wherever you live, no matter if it's sunny or snowy. A Christmas Luau would be a unique way to spend the holidays and one your family and friends would never forget. A Christmas Luau takes some planning and it can be stresful if you don't know where to start. This article will help you organize your Christmas Luau. How to Organize a Christmas Luau #1: Clothing
If you live in an area that will be cold at Christmas, you obviously do not want your guests to come wearing coconut bras and grass lei skirts. To keep in the luau spirit, you can request that your guests wear festive Hawaiian shirts. You can hand out lei's and they can wear grass skirts over their pants if they'd like.
How to Organize a Christmas Luau #2: Decorations
Christmas tree: Use leis instead of Garland on your Christmas tree. NewYearFavors.com sells fake leis of all kinds. They have some rainbow silk leis that would look fabulous on your Christmas tree. Once you have your leis, cut them so that you can wrap them on your tree. I don't recommend using colored lights on your Christmas tree as it could take away from the leis. White lights would go best. If you don't want rainbow leis, they also sell green and red leis, for a traditional Christmas theme or try red and white leis for a classy Christmas theme. To keep the Christmas Luau theme going, buy some Christmas Hawaiian ornaments. You could find some on eBay or at Alohafriendsshop.com. They have Santa dressed up in Hawaiian gear, flip flop ornaments and more.
Door decorations: Take a white poster board (found at dollar stores and Walmart, generally 2-3 for a dollar), write Mele Kalikimaka (Merry Christmas) in green and red letters and hang it in the middle of your door. Take some leis and tape/staple them around all corners of the sign. To let your guests really know where the party is, have a Hula Girl Balloon sign sticking up in your yard. You can buy one from Party Supplies Hut for $17.55.
