Today I am going to teach you how to create a simple yet very cute hairstyle for little girls. We will be focusing on Cornrow pigtails. The perfect hairdo for young girls for parks, parties, etc. It will keep their hair out of their face and still keep their innocent charm.

Please note that the cornrow pigtails survive best in African American hair. African American hair holds best with a good grip and enables the cornrows longer livability. Other hair types can still have this hairdo completed on them, but they are more apt to loose a grip and fall apart. This problem may be solved with a little hairspray and mousse.

You will need:

Hairbrush

Tangle spray (optional)

Ponytail holders

Hairspray and/or mousse

Small rubber band hair holders

Step 1 - You will need to make a straight part or semi-off center if you wish. Either way, you need a part. This will show you all where exactly to start off.

Step 2 - On one side of the part, brush the hair out nice and good. Do this until there are no tangles left. Now would be a good time to use the tangle spray if needed. Do not drench the hair because this will cause excessive moisture and possible frizzing later when dry.

Step 3 - Now that you have one side of the part brushed out well, start to make small-tight cornrow braids starting from the top of the head (by the part) and beginning of the face (by the forehead). Do not make the cornrows so that they are connected to the head all the way down. Just do it do the cornrows are connected at top and separate from the scalp once off the top of the head. Braid the rest of the non-connected hair until there is no more hair to braid on that strand. Continue this throughout the rest of the side of the part you are working on all the way down to the neck. Braid the cornrows in at a horizontal angle.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 on the other side of the part you have not worked with yet.

Step 4 - Once you have added all the cornrows to the head and there is no stray strands of hair left standing alone, take your hairspray and spray the cornrows lightly for extra hold.
