Flu Birds was directed by Leigh Scott a man known for low budget knock offs of movies. A prime example of his work may be Transmorphers, which was released around the same ti
me as The Transformers. Flu Birds was made for the Sci-Fi channel which has become the home of new B-grade creature features. The story this time follows a group of juvenile delinquents on a mandatory retreat in the woods, who find that there are giant killer birds hunting them. However, the birds do not only kill you and eat you, if you survive you are infected with a mutated strain of the avian flu, which eventually will make you look like a zombie. Terror spreads as the flu spreads in a quarantined hospital nearby.
When you pick up something like Flu Birds you are probably expecting it to be a B movie experience, but that sort of experience can go good or bad. A good B movie will be stupid, but in such a way that plays out naturally and funny. Whereas a bad one is trying too hard to be funny, poor writing, directing, and acting cannot be compensated for with B movie charm if the charm just isn't there. Flu Birds is a charm-less beast.
The R rated DVD version of Flu Birds features some gore that probably did not air on television, along with a shot of a side boob. Actually they can show side boob on tv, I have not seen that version. I would advise you to skip both versions, unless you are drunk and cannot help it.
The acting is horrible along with the lines of dialog they have been given to spew forth. The picture quality is very poor. It is too bright and white. The story is edited together in an uneven way that screws up certain small details and throws logic out the window. In a silly horror movie logic isn't a big factor until you find you cannot jump on board with the silliness and have fun; I wasn't having fun.
