Christmas is the hardest time of the year to stay on a diet and lose weight. If you have a close friend or a family member that is trying to lose weight this year, then why not encourage and support them with your Christmas gift this year. When they open your Christmas gift and see the support and encouragement and that you are behind them, they will know how special they are to you. One word of caution though: Do not just assume that someone is trying to lose weight. Only consider the following Christmas gifts if you the person is actually trying to lose weight and has talked to you about it, other wise you could end up with some hurt feelings on Christmas.

1. Workout DVDs.
There are thousands of different workout DVDs available. Such websites such as www.collagevideo.com sells hundreds of different workout and fitness videos. They offer videos for aerobics, weight training, walking, dancing, hip hop, step aerobics, kickboxing, yoga and so much more. You are bound to find a workout DVD that will suit the person who you are buying a Christmas gift for. Also, another great thing about this particular website is that they have reviews of the videos and short clips of the videos that you can watch and determine if you like it or not.

2. Gym Membership
If the Christmas gift receiver does not have already have a gym membership, consider purchasing a year membership for them. If a year is too expensive, then try a shorter membership that you can afford. Try to pick out a gym or recreation center that is close to the person you are giving the gift to so that they will actually utilize the gym membership.

3. Free Weights
Weight training is a very important part of losing weight. Sporting good stores sell free weight sets that are inexpensive but so valuable to a person who is trying to lose weight. Another option is to buy the person 2-3 sets of hand weights starting off very light and increasing only by a couple of pounds. These can even be found at places like Wal-Mart or Target.

Fabulous ideas!! Friends and relatives so often sabotage the efforts of their loved ones instead of supporting them. Who needs another fruitcake?

I would actually love getting a membership to gym instead of things I don't really want or need! Maybe I will ask for that...:)

Great ideas, but Geannie makes a good point, it's important to make sure that you're giving this gift to someone who will not be offended by it.

These are really great selections. Especially the gym memberships, because so many of us won't do it for ourselves!

Good ideas, but I agree with Geannie - people can be really sensitive about their weight, so proceed with caution!

Good options. Just make sure if you are giving where others are present, that the recipient wants people to know of their efforts. Some people are very sensitive about their weight.
