A Message to Men - It's Not a "Mushy Girly Romance"
In my last article about the movie "Fireproof" (Fireproof - Kirk Cameron Stars in a Movie for Marriages), I gave a preview of the movie - not a review, because I hadn't seen it yet. SWell, gentlemen, I've now seen the movie, and I'm here to tell you that this is not a film just for women, and a healthy marriage can benefit from it too!
"Fireproof" has plenty of stuff for guys to see. There is a lot of fireman action - burning buildings, a car crash scene that will have you on the edge of your seat - and plenty of "buddies-in-the-barracks" fun and jokes. My husband cracked a smile and laugh once in a while during the movie, and ended up thinking it was well worth his time. And believe me, he's "macho". Plus, the female star, Erin Bethea, has a fine figure to look at.
The people in this movie, some amateurs prior to this production, hold quite professionally next to Kirk Cameron's excellent portrayal of a fireman with a tough-as-steel exterior and hardened heart. Yet they perform naturally, and their hearts were in it rather than just doing a silly movie that they could make another $15 million for like some of today's top stars.
I say even more now than before - RUN TO THIS FILM if you care about your marriage (even if you think it's on solid ground), if you care about your girlfriend, or even if you care about your kids', parents' and friends' marriages. Various lines in the script will surely hit a nerve with anyone who's been in love or who's been told they're too self-centered or their mate is too self-centered.
People may say, "But it's a religious film, it talks about God." I say, SO WHAT? What are you afraid of? If Hollywood has the right to put Christianity in the worst possible light, then other films have the right to say something good about it. Isn't that what diversity is really about? People argue that Hollywood movies and video games don't insight people to go commit violence or kids to go have sex. Fine then. If you really, truly don't believe in God, you've got nothing to worry about. It won't affect you.
- A reason for MEN to see "Fireproof".
