It's important to take care of your feet that is a given but when you get a cut on your foot it is even more important to take care of your feet. Feet are the most susceptible part of your skin that can catch an infection. If you get a cut an infection can set in even though you take all the precautions to keep from getting an infection. You can keep the cut clean and bandaged but it still can get infected in a short time or in a long time. And infection can take place anytime in the healing process and an infection can happen even if you don't have a cut.

My son was moving a car engine. It was a small Volkswagen engine so two men could lift it up but my son was going backward and the fellow pushing the engine got pushy and pushed the engine into my son's big toe. It pulled the toenail up just a little bit but it didn't look too bad at the time. That was three weeks ago and the toe seemed to be doing well for the last three weeks. We soaked the toe in Epsom salts and we kept the toe as clean as possible. He kept a bandage on his toe and was very careful with the toe. After three weeks the toe was doing well and we thought it was healing.

Then one day after a long day he took his shoe off and the smell was awful. The smell was something like strong almonds and the toe was swelled up and red. It pussed some and I figured it was time to go to the doctor. The doctor put my son on antibiotics for 10 days and told him to do what we had already been doing to get the toe well. Keep the toe clean and bandaged and soak it in Epsom salts. After seeing what my son's toe has been through I know now that you can't be too careful with a foot injury. After all he took good care of the toe and after three weeks you would think it was pretty healed up but it was just the opposite. It was infected and now it was time to see a doctor.
