Evaluation of Omar Minaya as New York Mets General Manager: the Bad Moves

The 2008 New York Mets had the kind of season that makes fans want to point fingers. It's this guy's fault. It's that guy's fault. One of the guys getting blamed is Omar Minaya. Omar Minaya has signed or traded for some high profile names but
he has also made some pretty bad decisions. These are a few of Omar Minaya's worst decisions as general manager of the New York Mets.

Bad Move #1 by Omar Minaya: Moises Alou
I don't know what Omar Minaya was thinking when he signed Moises Alou for a pretty large sum. Moises Alou hit when he played but he wasn't on the field enough to justify what he was being paid. The New York Mets have gotten good contributions from other out fielders like Ryan Church, Endy Chavez and Daniel Murphy, making the Moises Alou look even more stupid.

Bad Move #2 by Omar Minaya: Paul Lo Duca
Paul Lo Duca was praised by his teammates in Florida and Los Angeles but I don't really know why. Paul Lo Duca might be my least favorite New York Met of all-time. The guy wasn't that good and he was pretty annoying. I was so glad when Paul Lo Duca left the Mets that I've totally overlooked the fact that Brian Schneider isn't that good.

Bad Move #3 by Omar Minaya: Bullpen
Thank you Captain Obvious. Honestly I can understand Omar Minaya starting this season with the bullpen we had. Relievers are the toughest players to predict. A reliever can be good for five seasons straight and then just suddenly lose it. Most of the Mets' relievers have had success at some point and Minaya was counting on that. But once those relievers are clearly not getting done a general manager has to do something about it and Omar Minaya hasn't.
