Choosing Topics to Write a Book About

Selecting the perfect topic to write about is a common dilemma that faces many young, aspiring writers. In fact, it is quite similar to the concept of 'writers block.' Similarly, you may be in tremendous hurry to output your thoughts on paper, yet unable to settle on a specific topic to discuss. The fact is that there are so many choices available, that it is normal to experience this feeling of uncertainty. To assist you in your struggle, here are a few methods used for choosing topics to write a book about. Make a List of Past Experiences
First, take a brief moment to reflect on your past experiences. Given the number of people who are alive, it can be presumed that you are not the only one to have underwent such circumstances. These men and women could be your potential audience. Wouldn't you be interested in reading about somebody who encountered the same quandaries that you experienced?
Second, make a list of all these experiences, how they made you feel, and the resultant outcome. In addition, also note similar situations. If you, for instance, experienced a brief stint of homelessness during which you lived in your car, then you could also write about living under a bridge, living at a group home, or living on the streets. My point is that you don't need to limit yourself to experiences inherent only to your own life. By expanding on the situations that you experienced, you can tap into an even larger audience.
Identity Something Needed by Others
Self-help and how-to books are extremely popular nowadays. It seems like everybody is trying to find a way to either improve themselves or get rich quick. In fact, non-fiction self-help books are currently selling way quicker than fiction books. The truth is that many fiction readers prefer to read the works of those authors whom they already know. Consequently, earning a sustainable income through fiction writing is rather difficult nowadays.
