It's to late to purchase a remote controlled (RC) car for Christmas but that doesn't mean you still can't catch the bug for these wonders. Rc car racing is becoming more popular all the time and there is some serious money and time involved for those who take it to the next level. There are RC clubs and events held all over the country for these hard core individuals but if you don't want to spend the same kind of money or time you can still have hours of fun and relaxation with these little goodies. You might want to start out with a quality toy grade car to see if you really enjoy it. This way you can have the best of both worlds. If after awhile you have lost your enthusiasm for the hobby you will have still had some fun without putting to much of a dent in your wallet or purse. On the other hand if you throughly enjoy it and can't wait to get out and race your car or head to your next tournament than you will have gained some experience before moving up to the next grade or RC cars.

Typically RC cars can be divided into two different categories, electric and gas powered. The electric type is the one most favored by the beginner. Most toy companies sell this type of remote controlled car. They run quiet and produce no smoke as there is no gasoline involved. The drawbacks are that unlike their gasoline powered counterparts they must be recharged frequently which limits the amount of time between uses. They are also not as powerful as their gasoline counterparts. The gasoline powered remote control cars actually do not run on gasoline but a special fuel mixture. They are noisier and produce a certain amount of smoke which limits them to being only run outdoors. They will however run for a much longer time than the electric powered models and at much greater speeds. Models can be purchased that will hit speeds above 70 mph. So an individual must weigh the advantages and disadvantages of both before deciding on which model to purchase.
