our neighborhoods. It can create a greater sense of security, reduction of crime, and closer communities. Then National Neighborhood Watch program has started a National Night Out. The official date for National Night Out is August 5th. The city of Bartlett participated in this by having everyone turn on their porch light for the traditional display of outdoor lights.

August can be quite hot and humid here in the south, therefor, the City of Bartlett has decided to show its participation by having the Neighborhood watch night out on Tuesday, October 7, 2008. The weather will be much cooler and not quite so humid. Hopefully, this will make for a bigger turn out of neighbors. Each Neighborhood Watch group has planned something different for their neighborhoods. Events range from ice cream socials to full fledged barbecues.

My Neighborhood Watch group covers all of the homes from Elmore Park to Altruria and from Jupiter to Constance. We are planning a pot luck/concession style block party. Everyone is invited to bring a covered dish if they wish. Considering how busy most of our schedules are some of us may not have time to prepare a dish, therefor, we will also be selling hot dogs and Nachos for $1.50 each and cold canned sodas for 50 cents. We have requested to have a fire engine, ambulance, and police car here for the kids. There will also be free face painting and kiddie games.

This is our 1st Bartlett Night Out and we are hoping for a large turn out. If you live in the neighborhood come on by the fun starts at 6p.m. in my front yard. If you are interested in your own Neighborhood watch and live in the Bartlett area call Lt. Rory Mack at 901-385-5510 or shoot him an email at rmack@bartlettpolice.org.
