Tips for Shopping at Ikea
Embed:
Furniture purists or maybe elitists do not quite understand what all the fuss is about surrounding Ikea, the Swedish furniture and home store that continues to be a popular hit for all things related to the home. Many people who criticize the store often find that the quality does not compare to more expensive brands and overall scoff at what they view as the cheapness of the products sold at Ikea.
Truthfully, not all of the merchandise at the retailer is of the same quality as other companies' more costly furniture pieces, but the fact of the matter is that no other retailer can beat the prices that Ikea offers to customers on a daily basis.
Increasingly, magazines such as Lucky and newspapers such as The New York Times have featured items that can be found at Ikea in the pages of their publications. The media attention in some ways proves a shift in attitudes towards the retailer that falls in line with retail trends in clothing where more people want fashion without the high price tag.
Ikea is a good start for anyone just starting out living on their own and need furniture but don't have the money for expensive pieces - yet, these same people do not want to sacrifice taste and style.
At Ikea a relatively modern style loveseat, with clean lines that can be added to any stark look, can be had for $99. The company's best-selling sofa called Klippan runs for $199. Shoppers then have a choice of adding a cover for $50 that range in colors from blue to lime green and brightly colored prints.
Armchairs can also be found rather inexpensively - some for under $100.
In addition to beds, chairs, sofas and furniture for the kitchen, Ikea is also known for selling organization. People today want the look of organization. Somehow by having things neatly lined on bookshelves or stored away in little cubbies, people mentally tell themselves their lives are in order.
