Best Nightlife in Austin, Texas

Every time I travel to Austin, Texas to visit my old college buddies I look forward with great anticipation to the fantastic nightlife the city has to offer. Of course, Austin is known as the home of the national champion Texas Longhorns football team and of famed Sixth Street, a party district full of bars and music venues sure to please every taste in city nightlife.

One of my favorite places to hang out when in Austin is the Shoal Creek Saloon on North Lamar. The Shoal Creek Saloon is like a little slice of Louisiana in the middle of the heart of Texas. All nightlife activities, in my opinion, should begin with a good meal so that you have something in your stomach to soak up the adult beverages that are typical fare for a night out. The menu at the Shoal Creek features great Louisiana dishes like Crawfish Etouffe, Cajun Gumbo, Shrimp Gumbo, and Crawfish Salad, as well as Shoal Creek favorites like Catfish, Oyster, Shrimp and Crawfish baskets that come with hushpuppies.

Once the meal is done the Shoal Creek has plenty to offer for an entertaining evening out. Dos Equis, Shiner Bock and Miller Lite are on tap, and a great selection of bottled beers includes standard American brews like Budweiser, Coors, Miller and Michelob, and "High Test" bottled beers like Aspen Edge, Sierra Nevada, Shiner Bock and Shiner Blonde. Imported bottles at the Shoal Creek include Amstel Light, Bass Pale Ale, Guinness, Red Stripe and Heineken. So whatever your taste in beer, the Shoal Creek Saloon can satisfy it. Of course, there are wines and whiskeys available if beer is not your adult beverage of choice.

In addition to the great selection of liquors and beers, one of my biggest reasons for going out to the Shoal Creek Saloon is the live music. Without a doubt, I think the Shoal Creek attracts some of Austin's best talents, including world-class guitar player Redd Volkaert. The music is great, the food is fantastic, the drinks flow freely, and the people are friendly and energetic. I make it a point to go to the Shoal Creek on every trip to Austin, and highly recommend you give it a try.
