These adorable pumpkin pot holders make an excellent addition to any kitchen this Halloween! Or, consider making a pair and giving them as a hostess gift at this year's Halloween party.

For this project, you will need:

- Bright orange terry cloth

- Green cotton fabric

- Sewing machine with coordinating thread

- Fabric scissors

- Fabric marking pen

- 1/4 inch quilter's batting

- Straight pins

- Warm iron and ironing board

- Large circle shaped stencil

- Large leaf and stem shaped stencils

- Three sheets of cardstock

- Pencil

- Craft knife

- Self healing mat

Begin this adorable project by placing a sheet of cardstock flat on the self healing mat. Place the large circle stencil in the center of the cardstock and trace the shape with a pencil. Repeat with a second piece of cardstock. With the third paper sheet, trace the pumpkin "stem" and a "leaf". Use the craft knife to cut out each shape.

Place a piece of bright orange terry cloth flat on your work area. Carefully use one of the circle pieces of cardstock and straight pins to adhere the shape to the terry cloth. Repeat with a second piece of cloth and the other circle shape. Adhere the stem and leaf pieces to the green cotton fabric in the same fashion. Mark the outline of the shapes using a fabric marking pen. Remove the pins and carefully cut out each fabric shape using a pair of fabric scissors.

Pin the two terry cloth circles face side together with straight pins. Smooth with a warm iron on an ironing board. Gently stitch around the outside of the circles, joining them together one quarter inch from the edge of the fabric. Turn the fabric inside out.

Cut a piece of one quarter inch quilter's batting to fit the inside of the terry cloth "pumpkin". Stuff the batting in the inside of the fabric circle. Stitch closed.

Lay the green leaf and stem pieces flat on the puffed terry cloth pumpkin shape. Pin in place with straight pins. Smooth the fabric with a warm iron. Stitch around the edges of the green fabric to secure.

Enjoy your new pumpkin potholder this Halloween!

Takeaways
  • Leave some of the green edge of the fabric exposed. It only adds to the rustic and country charm.
  • Make a pair for your own home, or use as a Halloween hostess gift.
  • Happy Halloween!
