Netflix has teamed up with Starz Play to provide a healthy dose of recent big movie hits for instant viewing on your computer. Even better is if you have a broadband internet connection, a subscription plan that allows three movies out at once, and the Roku device which will allow you to stream these movies directly to your TV. And they say the Netflix Roku isn't worthwhile because Netflix only has crappy movies on its instant viewing list.

No Country For Old Men. Yep, last year's inexplicable Oscar winner for Best Picture is available for Netflix instant viewing on your Roku. Why is it that the Academy almost always hands out awards to filmmakers for the movies that didn't deserve it? Following hard upon the apologia to Martin Scorsese for his piece of dreck The Departed, the Oscars finally recognized the genius of the Coen brothers for this film. Why No Country for Old Men was hardly dreck, it was also hardly the Coen's best movie. Even worse is that There Will Be Blood, Atonement, and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford were all superior, especially the best film of the decade, There Will Be Blood.

Grindhouse. Both Death Proof and Planet Terror are available for Netflix instant viewing on the Roku separately, in their expanded editions. I've seen neither, but I love the idea of reinventing a lost and lamented genre: the 1970s drive-in exploitation films. It all sounds like great fun and maybe now I'll get around to checking both movies out.

Spiderman 3. Until the Dark Knight came along, this was my favorite superhero movie. I know a lot of people prefer the first or second Spiderman movie, but, well, they're just plain wrong. Spiderman 3 will, shortly, be airing twice a night Friday through Sunday on TBS roughly every other week. But you've got commercials to worry about there; a LOT of commercials. Instead, Netflix Spiderman 3 to your Roku instead.
