Let's face it, if work was fun we wouldn't get paid to do it. Some people are fortunate enough to be paid to do something they love and gain great pleasure out if it. Many others get enough out of their work environment to allow them to be happy enough at work to continue. These employees are the most productive and the least stressed of all people and I envy them. For the majority of people - me included - they need to pay the bills and a bit more hopefully to get away from the day to day and take well earned vacations and save for retirement. They would love to just quit and do something we love, but that isn't always commercially viable. In this time of economic uncertainty fewer people are prepared to take the risk and pursue their dream job. If this is the case for you, then here are some points on getting through the day if you are bored with your job.Don't complain whatever you do! 99 times out of 100 you will just be given more work. That same work you find so boring...
Take regular breaks. Spread your lunch over 2 or 3 shorter intervals, with smaller portions. Also add a couple of breaks away from your desk between that. In summer especially, enjoy the out-doors.
Write a blog (not that I am doing that right now). If it looks enough like a business document, you look as though you are doing a lot of work. You can always save it on a removable disk and take it home to publish, or do it the traditional way and use the notepad and fill a couple of pages.
Create some games/entertainment for yourself. One of my favorites is business speak bingo. You make a list of clichés and silly business terms that come up during your day, such as helicopter view, level of granularity, and things like that. If you can make the best of the situation with one or two others in the same boat it is quite entertaining.
If you are lucky enough to have internet access at work, find some sites that provide you with at least an hour's worth of entertainment a day that you won't get bored of.
