Plan a Trip to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park

North of Medora, North Dakota you can find the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It is a rather large park and it has some history to it. Roosevelt National park is considered to be the northern Badlands. President Roosevelt had a ranch there and he would go on long hunting trips to the area. The area is rich in animals like mule deer and white tailed deer and elk. President Roosevelt named the ranch the Elkhorn ranch and he built a cabin called the Maltese Cross cabin. Roosevelt enjoyed life in the Badlands and spent a lot of his spare time there.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park had a north and a south unit and both units have great scenery and lots of trails to go on. The north unit has the North Unit Visitor Center in it and the south unit has the Painted Canyon Visitor Center in it. You can find camping and plenty of pull outs in both units also. Both units have plenty of prairie dog towns to watch and see if the prairie dogs pop there heads in and out of there holes. The prairie dogs can put on quite a good show with there everyday life in the prairie dog towns.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park has so much to see with colors in the badlands is different in the day and night as the sun sets or rises. There are paved roads but you will also find some unpaved roads in the park. Lots of hiking trails are in Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the trails can be steep and hard in places so you have to be careful and have the right equipment with you. If you are in Theodore Roosevelt National Park in the summer you will find that it can get very hot in the park so it is wise to have plenty of good drinking water with you the water in the back country should not be drunk unless it has been cleaned. In the winter the park can have harsh weather and extreme temperatures with sudden violent storms a possibility so you have to be prepared for just about anything.
