Send your kids off to a night of sweet and treats with a hearty, filling dinner. Use these ideas to keep the Halloween theme and your kids will have no problem filling up on some nutritious food before heading off for the night. You can also use these dinner ideas for several days leading up to Halloween.

Edible Skeleton Breadsticks

Take a tube of refrigerated breadstick dough and separate each piece of breadstick dough. Take one pre-cut piece of dough and stretch it out a little bit. Make a small slit in the center of each breadstick end. On each end you will have two little flaps of dough. Mold each flap down to make the double-knobs you see on cartoon bones. Mold the flaps on each end of all the breadsticks like this. Brush them with butter and shake on cinnamon and sugar, then bake according to package directions.

You can use salt instead of cinnamon and sugar and serve with mustard or other dips if you want.

Zombie Toes

This twist on pigs in a blanket is perfect for younger children who are too excited about the Halloween festivities to eat dinner. Use refrigerated biscuit dough and cut small strips. Wrap the back half of the cocktail frank with the biscuit dough so the front half stick out like a toe. These spooky Halloween finger foods are also nourishing enough to substitute for dinner on the big night.

Worm Sandwich

Place a piece of bread on your child's place. Use mayonnaise or mustard if your child normally eats these condiments. Take bologna or hot dogs and cut them into very narrow slices. Make tiny score marks in each end to make the edges curl a little bit. Place a handful of meat worms on the sandwich bread and serve with a piece of fruit and tortilla chips. Give your child a second piece of bread but make sure you leave the sandwich open face at first so they know they are eating worms. Refuse to tell them what the meat really is. Little boys especially will love this Halloween treat.

Other simple ideas to spook up your Halloween dinner:

Takeaways
  • Use strips of meat to make a worm sandwich.
  • Cut any normal sandwich into a treat with Halloween cookie cutters.
  • Use olives to make eyeballs for spaghetti.
