Tips for Taking Great Pictures of Yourself: Pouting is Out!
Taking self-portraits is common these days. After all, who wants to wait for someone to take their photo when they can easily turn a digital camera around and do it without assistance? Unfortunately,
amateur photos sometimes end up looking less than flattering, especially when trying to snap a shot with outstretched arms. Keep the following tips and advice in mind when taking pictures of yourself. Chances are the pictures you take will be pictures you will be proud to display on MySpace, forums and writing sites such as Associated Content. Pictures are worth more than a thousand words, and the pictures you post say more than you realize.
Pictures for Personal Ads
Avoid using webcam photos when taking pictures for personal ads. They are not usually high in quality or the most flattering. Also, watch angles when taking pictures. When I was single and browsing personal ads I wondered many times if people bothered to look at the pictures they posted before or after posting them. One guy either had his camera on his lap when taking a self-portrait or his head was entirely too far back. The view of the inside of his nose was better than the view of his eyes. Look objectively at the pictures you plan to post, and ask yourself if they portray your face or figure at the best possible angle. If not, keep trying. With digital cameras the options are endless.
Pouting is Out
Browse MySpace or other similar sites and you will find photos of women and girls with interesting expressions. Some look as if they are mad at the world, and others look as if they just changed a dirty diaper. They purposely pout with a smirk, but the lip-injection look is not that attractive. This type of expression appears ridiculously phony, and any facial expressions that are not entirely natural should be avoided when trying to take great pictures of yourself. Attempt to pout and more than likely you will look like a blowfish on crack or someone with a terrible toothache rather than a person who is naturally sexy. When trying to take great photos of yourself, pouting is definitely out!
