The Problems with Earthlink
First of all, Earthlink only offers dial-up and satellite in my area. For dial-up they charge $21.95! This is an insane price. Several companies not only offer dial-up at half that price, but they also offer faster dial-up. When I switched ISPs, I would have thought that I had switched to high speed internet service because Earthlink had been so slow. When I first signed up for Earthlink, high speed internet service was not available in my area (I live up in the mountains), but I was so desperate to have internet service back I chose this ISP. I stayed with Earthlink for probably a year before switching ISPs. There were other things that really irked me about Earthlink, such as having to have the bill taken directly out of my checking account each month. With Verizon, my internet bill was conveniently adding onto my phone bill which made things much easier. I honestly don't know why someone would use Earthlink, especially when you consider that you can literally pay a few dollars more and get DSL. Like I mentioned earlier, I could have had satellite internet access through Earthlink but they wanted around $600 for the equipment and $69.95 a month. Another thing you have to be wary of, when it comes to this ISP is the fact that they charge a certain price for so many months and then raise the price to about double the original price, if not more.
