Being pregnant is no picnic. Getting a tension headache or migraine during pregnancy is worse, because your options on what you can take medication wise are extremely limited. Here are some things you can safely take for your pain during pregnancy, along with ways to relieve the pain on your own.Tylenol®, or acetaminophen, is going to be the first thing that you turn to. Ibuprofen and aspirin are not recommended during pregnancy, so stay clear of anything that may be a form of either. Stick to Tylenol® products, or acetaminophen based products, for relieving your pain. Be sure to consult your doctor before taking acetaminophen based products during pregnancy, especially before the first trimester is over with.
Low doses of caffeine can help to alleviate the pain caused from migraines and tension headaches. Although it isn't recommended for women who are pregnant to have more than 300 milligrams of caffeine a day, a small dose can go a long way to easing the pain.
Dehydration during pregnancy can be a common factor for the onset of migraines and tension headaches. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids, specifically water, during pregnancy to help prevent a possible migraine or tension headache.
Often, low blood sugar during pregnancy can trigger a migraine or tension headache. Carry high energy snacks with you, such as fruits or grains, to give you a boost with your blood sugar, and to hopefully lower the chances of a headache or migraine.
Make sure that your area is well ventilated, and isn't overheated. Sometimes, having an environment around you that isn't comfortable can add stress to your bodies system, and could result in migraines or headaches. As often as possible, try to steer clear of stuffy, hot rooms with poor lighting.
Get plenty of exercise during your pregnancy. Not only will this help to keep unwanted pounds off, the energy release could get rid of headaches and migraines. Try going for a brisk 15-20 minute walk once a day.
