Sarah Palin does claim to support several issues traditionally "right-wing." But for the interests of this point, I'm only concerned with where she stands in support of small business in America today. Small business is crucial to too many local and regional economies to be ignored as an issue, when discussing the qualifications, of anyone who just might, in fact, end up with the helm...regardless of sex, race, creed, or religion.

I myself, know of several folks, whose sole 'job' is the operation of their own small to mid-sized business.

On doing a search on the term "Sarah Palin Small Business," I found four very interesting pieces: Coverage of her governance of a failing, state-owned dairy industry http://www.usnews.com/blogs/risky-business/2008/8/29/sarah-palin-just-how-pro-small-business-is-she.html?s_cid=rss:risky-business:sarah-palin-just-how-pro-small-business-is-she; "Is Sarah Palin Good for Small Business Owners and Franchises?" http://blog.franchisesolutions.com/index.php/2008-08/is-sarah-palin-good-for-small-business-owners-and-franchises/; "Does Sarah Palin Hate Tanning Salons and Small Business Owners?" http://www.franchisepick.com/pigmentgate-does-sarah-palin-hate-tanning-salons-small-business-owners/; and "Sarah Palin: The Ultimate Working Mother?" http://www.businessknowhow.com/blog/2008/09/sarah_palin_the.php

As long as Sarah Palin is supportive of small business, and other individual liberties, I'd gladly have her in the White House, should the need arise. There's nothing I know of that would ever indicate that the job can't be performed by a woman...a clever woman...a very clever, very hard woman...but no less than any man.

Takeaways
  • A competent woman's just as capable of the functions of vice presidency.
  • A large percentage of working Americans want to know if she's business-friendly.
Did You Know?
There are several points on both sides of the argument of Sarah Palin's business-friendliness.

Even if she did support small business, which I doubt, I can't vote for someone who was mayor of one of the few cities in the country that charges rape victims for the rape kit used when they make a complaint! THAT is an abomination. But good article as always Donald. :)

I think she has been vilified mainly because of her stances on abortion and her Christian faith (not to mention shooting cute l'il critters). Truth is, nobody knows how either of them will treat small business until they're actually in office. Still, I'd say if BP wanted to knock down Joe's gas station across the street from them so they could 'expand', I doubt very seriously that Pailn or anyone else would try very hard to stop them! Remember the golden rule - whoever has the gold makes the rules!!

Um, I've been trying to figure out what business exactly Palin was the owner of. Now her husband Todd has a fishing business, but he also has a day job working for BP, so it's hard to say if that's a real concern or not. Whoops - here's an article about his tax return, and it says he made a net profit of $15,513 last year. In 2006 he only earned $10,164. But of course that's his business, not Sarah's. I've also found that she and Todd invested in a car wash that never opened, and she also got a license for a marketing business, but never had a client. That's it. So it seems like a really big stretch to call herself a business owner and say that's part of the reason she's qualified to be president. A really, really big stretch. And to answer the question about what a vice president does...that's kind of not the point. The real issue is that if McCain dies or is incapacitated, she's the president. If that happens, well, remember what the Russians tried to do to Kennedy - they t

Charlie gave you experience from Oklahoma during the Clinton years. I concur. When Clinton took office he bankrupt one half of the small businesses in Tulsa, simply from raising all taxes. The Democrats always do that. We survived, but many did not. Less taxes allows small businesses to operate and profit. That creates more jobs. That's fact. I lived it. It appears you make more money under Democrats, however, you pay most of it back in taxes (usually hidden). The "death tax" is a good example. People do not know it is there until it is too late!

I live in a small town that has seen many small businesses and industries go under. Our downtown district has many empty storefronts and our industrial buildings are being torn down. The globalization of the economy is destroying small business in America. It doesn't matter which party is in control, they are only interested in serving their own needs and interests. They are all rich and most have never know what it's like trying to keep a roof over your family's head and food on the table.

Angie, I love your comment. It's about Party not gender.

...McPalin...LOLOL!! roflmao...Thank you Angie! How about OBiden? Lyn I totally agree. I've worked for both men and women and while each style might be different either one can sail a ship. And if they can't...it's not because of their sex. Charlie THAT was interesting.

Men and women ARE different and it's just the facts. A woman won't handle things the same as a man and to think she will would be and inaccurate perception. However, they can still be highly effective in just as many aspects of life and govt. as men are. She's shown us that. Great article Don!

I don't think either Dems or Repubs really support small business. However, I will say this. I worked for the Oklahoma Small Business Development Center for 10 years; most of them during Clinton's administration and he cut our budgets to ribbons. Trying to get a small business loan for my clients in the mid 90's was often a nightmare. But things improved slightly during the first few year's of Bush's administration. I left OSBDC in 2004 in so I can't speak to the Repub's second term. However, I was able to get a lot more small business loans after Clinton left office. Take or leave it. Call me a liar if you want but I KNOW what happened in our state. Some of our town's most successful businesses would never have been started under the Democrat administration. Thankfully, they are STILL in business.

It has never been Republican party line to support small business. Under a McPalin regime, you're far more likely to see financial support and tax breaks go to the largest of the multi-nationals. It has nothing to do with Palin's sex, only with the Republican tour she signed up for.

fantastic discussion Donald.

I won't give her or John McCain my support. I do not see their support of small companies in their public office track records. When I compared them to Obama and Biden, Obama and Biden showed much greater support in this regard.
