The newest game show on NBC is called "Identity". So what makes it different or better from the other thousand game shows on the television? Good question. We are living in a time of reality TV and new game show overload. So was it a good idea for NBC to launch yet another game show? Well, if you take a look at their current game show line-up you may think it was a great idea. Deal or No Deal has been a run away hit, but I think they may be falling flat on their face with 1 VS 100. Have you seen some of the idiotic questions they ask on that show, along with the not so bright contestants? Plus, Bob Saget as a host? I think they need to do a little research with that decision.

So where does this leave their new show "Identity"? Depending on your view, they could have done a little better with the host. Personally I don't like Penn, or was it Teller? But I guess they couldn't use Teller since he really doesn't speak. However, once you get past the heightened volume of Penn's voice, the game is pretty interesting and ironic. In America we are constantly being told how we should not "profile" people or "judge a book by its cover". Yet in this game, that is exactly what you have to do in order to win money. They do not disclose the names of the players, and the contestant's job is to figure out which identity matches with one of 12 "strangers". I have yet to see them place a "stranger" of Arab decent for the contestant to pick them as a Muslim or worse, since this would be racial profiling, but the other "strangers" have been pretty interesting. They have tried to have a fairly wide range of "strangers" and "identities" to choose from, such as the alligator wrestler, the kidney donor, or the crime scene investigator.

Takeaways
  • Identity is the newest game show on NBC that seems to follow the lines of Deal or No Deal.
  • The concept of the show is a little taboo since the contestant is to "profile" strangers in order to win money.
  • In my opinion, Identity could turn out to be yet another winning game show if they tweak the host a little.
