Design a Successful Website for the Internet

Keys to Keep in Mind When Creating a Profitable Website for Personal or Business Use

Building a website can be a difficult, but fun learning experience. With the growth and expansion of the internet, it seems everyone has their own site - and some are better than others. If you are choosing a template or designing your own website, there are a few things you should keep
in mind to keep traffic flowing and visitors staying. When you first start designing a website for the internet for an online business or personal site remember people are looking for information, and they are looking to access it quickly. Once you have your website designed it is time to review its setup before it "goes live" on the internet.

Site Readability
Nothing can drive a website visitor away faster than an unreadable setup. It may look great to you, and you may be able to read it - but can other people? Bright contrasting, multiple colors may appeal to you but do they actually work on a website for the internet? Probably not. One of the best tests to find out if your site is "visitor friendly" is to have other people view your new website. Then ask them these key questions:

Did you like the website? What did you like?
What didn't you like about the website? What would you change?
Did you have to struggle to read any of the pages? Why?
Was the site easy to navigate through?

This should give you a general idea of what outsiders are seeing when they surf the internet to view your website. You may not like the suggestions you get, and they may send you back to the drawing board, but at least you are saving yourself valuable time by finding out your website flaws early on. If you can't make your visitors stay for one reason or another, there is no way you are going to get consistent readers or sales from your site. Many online businesses and personal sites fail because they are too flashy or unreadable to the average visitor. It is better to keep your design streamlined and simple even though it may not be exactly what you want. Eventually you will be able to find or design a website that works in the future, but if you want your website running on the internet now, it is better to sacrifice flash for function.
