Abby Cadabby's cute, she's pink, and she's a Muppet on Sesame Street! What more could a celebrity-loving little one want on Halloween? If you have a preschooler and are looking to avoid the typical Disney princess route this season, try making an Abby Cadabby Halloween costume. Here's what you'll need and how to put it together.

Abby Cadabby Halloween costume: The Outfit.

In order to put together your homemade Abby Cadabby Halloween costume, you'll need a few different items. Start off with a light blue leotard and matching ballet skirt, or a sleeveless dance dress. Target has one available for about $22, and another for $17. Either would work well as the base of your Abby Cadabby Halloween costume. (As an added bonus, either can also be reused if your little one takes dance classes!) To add some fun sparkle to the base ensemble (and what preschooler doesn't love a little glitz?), visit your local fabric store and pick up a sequined band in a shade of blue that matches the dance dress. Sew the band around the neckline (or just tack it with safety pins if you're not sewing-inclined) to add pizzaz to your Abby Cadabby Halloween costume.

Abby Cadabby is a fairy, so of course you'll need a pair of wings. Amazon carries Pink Sparkle Pixie Wings that at about $6, are just the right price for your Abby Cadabby Halloween costume, and then the dress-up drawer. Or if you're crafty like my mom is, you could try fashioning your very own pair using pink pipe cleaner. Finally, you'll need a pair of pink tights and pink ballet slippers (Payless Shoes carries inexpensive ones) to finish off your homemade Abby Cadabby Halloween costume. I've purchased tights at Target for about $5 per pair, which is about as cheap as they come. Buyer beware, though: Keep in mind that you get what you pay for. Cheapie tights rip and tear far more easily than their pricier counterparts. Check out Danskin for tights with a longer lifespan.
