I just got back from my week long stay at Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach, which is an all inclusive resort located in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island. One word to describe Grand Bahama Island in general is BEAUTIFUL.
Although the island was fantastic, and my stay at the resort was pleasant, it did have it's ups, as well as it's downs.
Location:
Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach is tucked away in what I would call Grand Bahama Islands secret hideaway. Literately it's far away from the hustle and bustle of the main parts of the island, yet close enough as to where a taxi ride into the main parts of Port Lucaya for some local cuisine won't cost you a fortune.
Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach is located at Doubloon Road & Churchill Drive. A taxi cab ride from Freeport Airport to the resort comes to an even $20.00, plus a tip of course.
The Resort:
When we got our first glance at our new home for the next week, I was impressed, but not in awe with the appearance of the main lobby where you check in. However after being greeted with a Bahama Mamma, an ice cold alcoholic drink at the door by an extremely nice door greeter, I felt more at home.
The main lobby itself is pretty large with a customer service/check in desk on one side, and a By Request desk on the other side. Right next to the By Request desk, you have your time share greeter's (which I will get into later on).
There are a few sets of couches set throughout the main lobby, however they appeared to look a little worn, and in my opinion they need some new replacements. However I didn't come to the Bahama's to sit around in a lobby, so this was not an issue for me. I do however feel it is necessary to mention.
Anyhow, with the main lobby aside, I will move on to the actual hotel. Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach features 276 recently renovated rooms. You have a choice between a lower floor, or an upper floor room. Room options that are available vary, as do the prices. Seeing how this was our first international vacation, we went all out and booked for the superior ocean view room.
