Welcome to Phoenix, Arizona in the heart of the Sonoran desert. Phoenix was officially established on February 25, 1881, however it is also a well known fact that Phoenix was once occupied long before the pioneer Jack Swilling settled in it for irrigation and canal purposes. Hundereds of years ago when the Eastern cities were more like small settlemnts and open land, a well established community that we know as Phoenix was well in progress. The Pueblo Grande ruins which was occupied between 700 AD and 1400 AD is a confirmation of our city's true inception.

Enough on the history though, Phoenix is also the state capitol of Arizona with population of 3 million in Maricopa county, which also makes it the sixth biggest city in the United States. Phoenix is also home to one of the largest state parks in the world, South Mountain Park, covering over 20,00 acres of land and that also includes some 1,700 acres of traditional park land. Some of Phoenix's surrounding cities include Awhatukee, Avondale, Peoria, Glendale, the popular Scottsdale, Tempe, my hometown Mesa, Gilbert and Chandler.

Have I mentioned that Phoenix is hot, well if I haven't let me tell you it is very hot in the summer time, considering it's
in the middle of the desert. In the Navajo language phoenix can be called "Hoozdo" which means " the hot place". It was also once ranked the #1 hottest city in the nation and also ranked the # 2 most driest city on The Weather Channels Top Ten, a show that ranks weather based off of categories like humidity, heat, dryness, snow, wetness, rainfall.
