Crafting the Perfect Outfit

Have you ever tried on an outfit, posed in front of the mirror, then immediately made a face and returned to the closet? Many of us have difficulties finding the perfect outfit when trying to look nice for a date or special event. Sometimes we look to plain, too done up, or just not how we planned on appearing. I have some advice on how to create a great outfit for any occasion.

First, hopefully you have the "basics" in your wardrobe. If not, go buy them before you make any other purchases on clothing that you don't need! You should have the essential basic colors (black, tan, gray, white) in your different articles of clothing as well as some bright accent pieces to spice things up. Don't be the woman drug down by her clothing! Add that little kick into your outfit and get noticed! Once you have the basics down, you can add more trendy articles of clothing to your closet.

Another basic is an awesome pair of jeans--awesome in that they make your behind look amazing and compliment your body type. I won't get into the types of cuts that are the best for each body type, but trust me, there is a pair of jeans for you. As a general rule, go for boot but jeans with a dark wash. These will make you look the slimmest. Jeans should be comfortable too! A lot of jeans are made with stretch materials, making for optimum comfortability.

Try to build a collection of tops in all different types of materials. Different fabrics create different moods for your outfit. Step away from the cotton and try a lacy or satiny top for a sexier, more mature look. Add patterns, too. Patterned clothing is great when paired with a solid colored piece from the same color family. This should be a given, but don't mix patterns in the same outfit! I've seen people try to pull off plaid with stripes. It doesn't work.
