They are the latest craze in dating assistance provided to lonely Japanese men. In Tokyo alone their are dozens of these "nampa" institutes. They claim to be able to take any man and transform him into a true womanizer within a set period of time and through a structured and certified program. The student body is often quite diverse. You will find engineers and company executives. There are young and old men. Those who have few chances to interact with women attend as well.

Class fees differ depending on the school. The typical amount tends to be around 30,000 yen. Sometimes additional fees apply for materials like books. Behind every school is a "dating coach" that follows a curriculum comprised of tips and tricks to train students through various programs all aimed at one goal: success with women.

Besides typical classroom lectures, "real world" lessons are utilized. A common activity throughout these dating schools is to literally put their students on nearby street corners and practice going up to women and attend to "nampa" them, using what was taught in the classroom from previous lessons. This usually comes later in class and the dating coach will observe and critique the students overall performance afterwards.
