Making time for yourself during the holidays is important to reduce stress and for your mental health. Activities and daily living can become extremely busy and hectic during the holidays and at Christmas. It can be easy to forget about making time for yourself during the rush of festivities and events surrounding the holiday. It is important to make time for yourself during this busy period to reduce stress, get enough rest, enjoy the holidays more.

Reduce Stress by Making Time for Yourself during the Holidays

You can reduce stress by making time for yourself during the holidays. When you allow time for yourself, you are able to unwind and relax. This will naturally reduce some of the holiday and Christmas stress that you might be feeling during this hectic time of year.

Get Enough Sleep during the Holidays

Many of us are already sleep deprived with our normal daily routines. We tend to get even less sleep during Christmas and the holidays because of all the additional activities, chores and events during this time of the year.

Getting too little sleep makes it difficult to concentrate. We are more accident-prone during times that we have had too little sleep. Additionally, we can be more irritable and stressed. It is important to allow yourself plenty of time to get enough sleep during the holidays and at Christmas.

Enjoy the Holidays More by Allowing Time for Yourself

If you have spent the entire day with friends, co-workers and relatives it can be difficult to enjoy a holiday party that evening. Take time during the day to spend completely alone during the holidays. When you are later surrounded by people, you will not feel anxious or over-stimulated. Going from one activity to another during the holiday is fun but can be tiresome.

Plan ahead for the holidays and don't go see everyone one after another. Spend time between visits relaxing with a nice up of eggnog or even a warm and refreshing mug of hot apple cider. You will then be refreshed and able to fully enjoy time with friends, family members and visitors.

Great tips!!! It took me a lot of years to figure out how to relax during the holidays (having so much work to do). You're no fun if you're too tired and overworked!!!

I have two aunts that just run themselves ragged! Their kids even tell them it's not necessary, but they're so used to doing it. It reminds me of the story of Martha & Mary when Jesus visited their home. Martha was all about the hustle and bustle and complained that her sister Mary was just sitting at Jesus' feet listening to him. Jesus told Martha to remember the important things in life.

There is an advantage to be gained from not celebrating midwinter commercial shopping holidays, it prevents hangovers and family fights.
