Cursed Chicago Cubs is Eternal Truth
As an alternative to writing this article, and devoting any media attention or copious individual thoughts to the annual demise of the goat-cursed Chicago Cubs, let us proclaim herein, in perpetuity:
One hundred years of futility? Don't you kid yourself! The Chicago Cubs
will never win another World Series.
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but generations upon generations of fans, young and old, should now pay heed to Billy Sianis' telegram to Philip K. Wrigley, October 6, 1945: "You are going to lose this World Series and you are never going to win another World Series again. You are never going to win a World Series again because you insulted my goat."
There is no need to be hopeful, Cubs fans, in the face of the consummate Truth - it is blatant foolishness. How many times do we need to hear the guttural scream of Ron Santo? "This is the year!"
I think not.
No more shall we see Chicago Flubs or similar on the cover of the Chicago Sun-Times. No more shall ticket prices be unaffordable to the common, decent baseball fan to attend a game at Wrigley Field. The circus, the charade is over.
And what's with the idea of conducting a rally downtown prior to a first-round, divisional playoff? Ain't nothing like heaping even more pressure on the players of the 2008 version of the goat-cursed Cubbies.
Oh well. Poor decision-making must be followed when it comes from Mayor Daley's machine. Protocol must be followed. Some things will never change.
I bet Lou Pinella thought how no such foolishness would ever be accepted in New York - not if it involved the Yankees, that is. Joe Torre knows too. A rally before you enter the playoffs?!
Bad idea.
Thus, our perpetual second-city status.
There is no more wait 'til next year for the Chicago Cubs. The current version of the hexed ball club has gotten a head-start on the next century of futility.
