An experience as beautiful as a tropical postcard is the best way to describe Unexso's Dolphin Swim. Before even booking our vacation we already knew that a dolphin swim at Unexso was an excursion we were not going to miss, so we booked fast! We had more options when it came to dolphin's though besides just a dolphin swim. We could have had an encounter, or an open ocean dive with the dolphins. We however went with the swim simply because it seemed like we would have a better up close and personal experience than just having an encounter.
While booking we had a 2pm appointment, but seeing how there were no other couples for the 2pm swim, we were moved up to the 11am swim. Usually though Unexso runs their dolphin swims at 9am, 11am, 12:30pm, and 2pm. Price for the swim will come to an even $169.00 seeing how there are no taxes in the Bahama's!
Unexso itself is located at port Lucaya and from there you hop a small ferry which will take you through a lovely turquoise blue channel into the Dolphin lagoon. The boat ride was interesting itself, during the ride I witnessed a large needle nose type fish jump out of the water, I got to see locals on the bulkheads line fishing, and we passed an old ship labeled Ghost Ship. It was pretty cool.
At first we thought we were going to have a disappointing time because the small ferry boat was seriously fully loaded with people, and we imagined they were ALL going to be doing the swim. One thing though set us apart from them. Our bracelets.
Our bracelets were yellow with smiley faces, while nearly everyone else's had blue bracelet's on. We learned that those wearing the blue bracelet's were doing the encounter, and those with the yellow ones were doing the swim.
We lucked out extremely because there was only 1 other couple who booked the swim.
Arrival:
Your ferry boat will pull up to a small dead end lagoon in the water where you will see the most adorable little tiki type huts set on the far left dune formation. It's almost as if a little person lives in it, and it's pretty beautiful.
