When we were planning a camping trip one time last summer I went to the garden to collect some fresh produce to fill our camp kitchen with fine fresh vegetables. I love fresh vegetables at the campsite so I found some lovely green peppers that were thin but I didn't care I thought they would be a tasty treat. Once at Camp I unloaded the food I had gotten from the garden including those beautiful peppers. As my husband started cooking I glanced at the fine peppers and decided I just couldn't wait to eat them so I took a big bite out of one of those peppers. At first it tasted good but after I started to chew them up real good my mouth felt like it was on fire. I then realized that those lovely then green peppers that I had harvested from my garden for my camping trip were actually hot peppers. I am not too good at hot food so right away I got real uncomfortable. I drank all the water I could find but that wasn't doing it. I just did what I could to feel better, I didn't know then what I know now and if I did I couldn't do much about it anyway since we were camping.Water won't soothe the fire you get in your mouth from eating hot peppers. Hot peppers have capsaicin in them and capsaicin will not dissolve in water so drinking water won't do a whole lot to cool off your mouth. Even if you have ice in the water it still doesn't get the fire out in you mouth completely. Instead of water get yourself a nice cold glass of milk instead to cool off the hot in your mouth. Milk contains a substance called casein. Casein is a compound that has a chemical structure that attracts capsaicin and pulls it off of your tongue so your mouth doesn't feel so hot.
