Orlando Vacation Saving Tips

Orlando Florida is probably the #1 choice for family vacations every year. With so much to do there, your money can go fast unless you have a careful thought out plan in place. Being a former Floridian myself and vacationing there almost once a month for the past 14 years, I consider

myself a bit of a expert on the subject so allow me to share with you some money saving tips and for a very memorable vacation of a lifetime.

First off let's talk transportation. How do you decide how to get there? The first idea that pops in most peoples head is flying. With the cost of gas prices skyrocketing, air fares are rising every day. Let's not forget the luggage charges now too. The average airfare for a family of four is roughly $1,700 round trip plus the cost of luggage depending on what airline you choose. Then once you arrive in Florida you need a second form of transportation, a vehicle. The average rental for a vehicle able to carry a family of four and all the luggage is approximately $500 for the week. Ok so lets to some addition now. Between airfare and a rental car you have already spent roughly $2200 and you haven't even got to the hotel yet. Wow! So let me suggest some alternative transportation options. How about the train? Amtrak is a very inexpensive way of travel and an awesome experience for families to enjoy. Kids love stuff like that. It makes getting there an adventure all on its own. The kids will enjoy the dining car and just getting to see all the sites along the way between your home and your destination vacation. The fares for Amtrak are very reasonable and not to mention you can solve the car rental expense by taking along your own vehicle if you travel on the Auto Train. Then if you need your child's carseat or stroller they can stay in your car and you don't have to lug them around the airport with you. A family of four along with your vehicle on the Auto Train will spend approximately $1100 to $1300. That already gives you a savings of at least $900. Just think of what you could do with the extra $900 once you are in Orlando.
