How to Build a Fence for a Halloween Cemetery

Easy, Cheap and Impressive Homemade Halloween Fence for Your Cemetery Decoration

Recently I wrote an article about how to build a cemetery in the back yard, for Halloween decoration. Now, I will complete it explaining how to surround the cemetery with a fence.

We can buy a cemetery fence in a Halloween store; Spirit Halloween or the Halloween Where House sell them, as well as Target, or Wal-Mart. But they are pricey, small, and the material is cheap plastic, that breaks when you try to put them down in the ground. The cheapest I saw cost 20.00 dollars two small panels and you will need many more than two.

My husband is a pretty handy person, and he decided to build his own Halloween cemetery fence. He bought all the materials in the Home Depot, and he finished building it in a three day weekend, with short but necessary brakes for beer. I will talk about the materials for build one rail for the fence. You should decide how many rails you will need, depending of the size of your Halloween cemetery and your front yard.

Materials for one rail of the cemetery fence:

Two 1x2 pieces of wood at 8 ft long.

Six PVC pipes at 10 ft long.

One can of black spray paint.

A package of plastic skulls, they bring around 10 skulls.

Cut the PVC pipes in 14 pieces of 3 ft long, and 3 of 4 ft long (these ones for the legs).

Drill holes in the wood 6'' apart, with a 7/8 drill bit. Measure towards the end and make the last hole 2'' apart to the rest.

Slide the seventeen pieces of PVC pipes through the holes. The two pieces at the ends should be longer than the rest, and they will be the legs.

Secure the pieces of PVC pipes to the holes with wood screws.

Place one plastic skull at the top of each PVC pipe.

Now you can paint the cemetery fence. If you have time and a little money to spare, I recommend you to treat the fence with a primer for outdoor furniture, which will avoid the pipes to rust where they were cut. Then, paint it with matte black spray paint. You can use the cheap one, or buy the spray that gives an antique effect; they sell it at Michael's. Make sure that you paint the skulls as well, to create a more realistic effect. I suggested the skulls, but you can use any scary Halloween decoration you want for your fence, as bones, or spiders.
