My tweenage daughter and her friends decided that they were too "old" to go out trick or treating and they wanted to have a Halloween party at our house. This being the very first party she threw after moving to a new city and making new friends it was very important that the party had 3 key ingredients: fun activities, scary movies, and deliciously gross food.

Two of their favorite Halloween party activities were a Silly String Fight with green silly string. They also had a Ghoulish Face Paint Contest. For your contest have the guest divide into teams of two. Each team takes turns using Halloween make up to create the most ghoulish, scary or funny face that they could come up with. Votes are taken on paper, tossed into a hat, Survivor style and counted. Another big hit was the Scared of the Dark Feelers. Set empty shoe boxes or other boxes with bottom side open and over top of your choice of items: chocolate pudding, whipped cream, and sand paper just to name a few. . Create an opening in the top of the box but cutting a small square and then covering it with a glue gun and black cloth around three of the edges of the cloth. Kids insert their hands in the boxes and try to guess what is in there.

Your party can be with or without costumes, just make sure that if with costumes no one minds getting a little dirty.

Scary Movies: Of course you have to use your own judgment on this one, by the party planners (2-12 year old girls) had very distinct ideas about what they wanted to see. Parents, try to be a little "giving" on this one item, a teenage Halloween party can make or break the entire upcoming holiday season. I like the "scary movies" to have a big of humor, so usually search for Tim Burton Movies like, Beetlejuice is a classic, Scary Movie, The Nightmare before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Sleepy Hallow, and Edward Scissorhands. Consider also the "Rocky Horror Picture Show," "Alien,"

And of course, terrific food and treats. The day of the party arrived, and we spend most of the day creating her ghoulishly simple Halloween creations, just in time for her guest to arrive and eat every scrap.

You are the party queen. Love the little additions like licorice that turn tried and true into Halloweeny.
