The dirty-politics-as-usual allegations and accusations have already begun and it is being led by a group called Steal Back Your Vote. According to Steal Back Your Vote (Stealbackyourvote.com), the Republicans have been systematically disqualifying voters and purging voter records, especially the records of voters in Democratic districts, for years and they're still doing it. Led by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who wrote an expository article for Rolling Stone magazine that charged Republicans with stealing the 2004 election, and Greg Palast, the BBC investigative reporter who exposed Florida Attorney General Katherine Harris' illegal purging of Florida votes that cost Al Gore the 2000 election, Steal Back Your Vote is determined that another such occurrence does not happen again. The organization cautions voters to check and double-check their registration status to ensure that their right to vote has not been abridged by some purge or disqualifying technicality.

James Parks at AFL-CIO Now Blog reports that various questionable and sometimes illegal activities have been and continue to be an ongoing process in several states, including a few battleground states. The activities include voter role purges after the deadline (90 days before an election). Purges are usually done when records checks are done and certain voters are found ineligible (they have moved, are convicted felons, have died, etc.). But these purges are being done against extant voters as well and when the voters go to the polls on Election Day, they find out they are ineligible to vote.

Parks cites the nonpartisan Brennan Center for Justice report that relates incidents of purging in Mississippi, Georgia, and Louisiana in total disregard of regulations, oversight, or national standards. He goes on to cite USPIRG, a public interest group, which issued a report that reveals 19 states ignoring the federal law of not purging within 90 days of a national election.

Great article. The possibility of Republicans voter caging and stealing this election--as they did in 2000 and 2004--scares me to death. A McCain/Palin administration would be even worse than a Bush administration, even though until a few weeks ago I didn't think it was possible to sink lower than the Bush presidency.

Interesting.... stuff like this is why it feels like the Republicans have stolen democracy from America.
